Some highlights include: simply wondering the cobbled streets between historic buildings, Distillery Walking Tour and Seway tours, Glass artists at work in the Tank Studio, Sandra Ainsley Glass Gallery, Jane Corkin photographic gallery, Mill Street Brewry tour, just to name a few.
Started up in 1837, William Gooderham’s and James Worts’ waterfront distillery became the world’s largest distillery in just 10 years. This distillery is of an outstanding example of Victorian industrial design. Fortunately, this once deserted distillery is a vibrant and lively place of interest today. It is a venue of live music and festivals.
Today, you can still see the original concrete floor, brick walls and meamed ceilings that remain unchange. Believe it or not, more than 340,000 old bricks were brought from Cleveland and built the lanes and alleyways. You can find creative group of tenants operating in these atmospheric buidings.
Each year, about 30 festivals take place here. Ontario’s first organic beer was made here in the microbrewery housed in the original distillery buildings. There are art galleries, artists’ studios and boutiques. You can expect to pick up some interesing clothing and jewelry. On the art front, there are some theater and dance companies and performance schools.
Distillery Historic District in Downtown East in the city of Tornoto is an aatmospheric place to visit. A walk on the old street with the Victorian buildings is definitely worth a visit.
