Switzerland, one of the most mountainous countries in Europe which are often depicted on postcards showing ice-capped Alps. It has cold climate, mountainous terrain and its political neutrality, which is perhaps brought on by its topographical isolation. As a matter of fact, it was told that many Swiss people, especially those who live in the Swiss Alps still retain their culture, traditions and Alpine characteristics, largely unspoiled by the marks of the modern world. These people are usually residing in villages near the Alps known as Laax. If you like Winter sports, it is famous in Laax, mainly skiing and snowboarding. If you do not like the cold weather, you can visit during Summer and it is also famous for Summer sports like hiking, downhill biking, and mountain biking.
As you know, Switzerland is very mountainous and 70 percent of its land area is 
covered by the Swiss Alps. These Alps are known for its jagged peaks and steep gorges. The Pennine Alps range, for example, has Switzerland’s highest peak, the Dufourspitze of Monte Rosa, which stands at 15,203 feet. This is one of the ultimate travel spots in Switzerland. However, not all the Alps are so high. Take for example, The Jura are smaller and lower. This is a popular travel destination in Switzerland because of its cross-country skiing. The Jura Mountains is where Swiss watch-making first began. If you like to visit more Alps, the Mattehorn is another high peak in the Alps that you should not miss. At 14,688 feet, it towers above the state Valais Canton.
Switzerland is a cold country, even in Summer for those who come from the tropic. It is going to be very cold in Winter. If you are doing to Switzerland in Winter, winter clothing is a must. As Switzerland is mountainous, there are plentiful of interesting and adventurous activities such as skiing, hiking, hot-air balloon activities. A famous resort having these activities is the Château-d’Oex, which is nestled in a valley in the Alps. Château-d’Oex the capital of the district of Pays-d’Enhaut. If you like ballooning, in the month of January each year, the world famed ‘Balloon Week’ is held and up to 100 balloonists gather in a festival of ballooning.
